Camp

Can you believe it? We will be on camp in just a few days time!  We can’t wait!

Here’s a list of things to remember to bring.

What to wear:
You’ll need to wear long pants and sturdy runners on the first day because we will be going for a long walk before we even get to the camp.

What to bring on the bus:
Small backpack with:
  • snack
  • water bottle
Everything else will be going in Mr I's trailer, you won’t be able to bring items on the bus.

What to pack:
As space is very limited, please don’t bring a suitcase. Suitcases take up lots of room that we don’t have in the trailer. Bags take up less room than a case.  Please make sure that if you are bringing a pillow, or doona that it is put in a bag so it wont get dirty in the trailer, there will not be very much room in the car to transport luggage.
  • Sleeping bag or sheets and doona
  • Pillowcase
  • Towel
  • Underwear and socks (1 pair for each day plus one spare)
  • Pyjamas or nightie
  • Jumpers / Windcheaters
  • Jeans / Shorts / Tracksuit
  • Indoor shoes (runners, sneakers, or slippers)
  • Outdoor shoes (runners, walking boots or shoes)
  • Toiletries (including insect repellent, sunscreen, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc)
  • Torch (a small torch is sufficient)
  • Waterproof jacket or coat
  • At least one complete change of clothes is needed
  • Please name your items

What NOT to bring:
  • thongs or sandals
  • mp3s, iPods, etc
  • mobile phones
  • singlets or strappy tops

If you bring a camera it is your responsibility to look after it.

Looking forward to a fun camp

Mrs I & Miss B!

Bullet's Dream

Bullet has decided that he wants to leave his classroom cage behind and live his dreams.  You are a boat designer and builder. Bullet has has asked you to build him a boat (or a raft) that can carry him across the sea!

Your boat must be able to safely carry his weight, and needs to be sturdy enough so it won’t easily tip over. Your boat will be made at school using materials you bring from home, as well as materials that will be provided for you here at school.

Please bring to school next week items from home that you would like to use to create and build your water vessel. If you have some spare items, it would be great if you could bring them along too for those who don’t have enough items, or have forgotten!

*Bullet will not be involved in the testing of our water vessels, and will not be placed on any water vessel in the water. We will use an item of similar size and weight to Bullet to test our vessels.

We measured and weighed Bullet.

He is about 27 cm long when he stretches out.
He is about 10cm wide.
He is about 8 cm high.
He weighs 860g.

If Bullet could speak, I wonder if he would say things like this...

Oobleck

We had fun in science today making and playing with Oobleck!

To make oobleck, you need 3 tablespoons of cornflour and 2 tablespoons of water (you can add food colouring too if you like). Mix it together and see what happens...

What happens when you squeeze it in your hand.

Can you roll it into a ball?

What happens if you touch the oobleck with your hand firmly?

What happens if you touch the oobleck gently?

Can you pour it into another container?

Do you think oobleck is a solid or a liquid?

Oobleck is actually both a solid and a liquid!

"Oobleck is often referred to as a 'non-Newtonian' substance because it does not behave as Newton's Third Law of Motion states; for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Applying this principle, you would expect Oobleck to 'splash' when you 'smack' it with your hand. (Smacking is the action, splashing is the reaction.) However, when you try this out. Oobleck does not splash, in fact, it becomes a solid substance for a few moments. Why? Scientists explain this as follows. Uncooked corn starch particles are structured in both crystalline and noncrystalline arrangements. When slowly mixed with water, the non crystalline structures of corn starch absorb most of the water. When you smack or stir it rapidly, you increase the temperature and pressure on the mixture which causes more non crystalline structures to form. These new noncrystalline structures absorb more water and the mixture becomes thicker:hence the appearance of a solid. When you discontinue the pressure, the number of noncrystalline structures decrease and water is released, creating the 'soupy' mixture." www.http://www.teachnet.com/lesson/science/glopgloop.html"

Copy and Paste

Hi Everyone! I hope you are having a nice day with Miss J.  I would like you to copy and paste the text below into a word document, and complete the sentences - with lots of detail please ;-)

In science this term I leaned about ... (tell me at least three things that you learned this term)

I enjoyed learning about ... because ...

The most amazing thing I learned about space this term was ...

I would like to know more about ... because ...

I had trouble understanding ...

My favourite part of science this term was ... because ...

Please also insert a picture about space in the document. You'll find some pictures on this website
WP Clipart that you can use.

You must also have a heading at the top of your document and it needs to stand out. You could make the heading using word art, or just use a different font and/or colour. Do this AFTER you have typed in your information. Don't spend too much time making it look really awesome because you'll run out of time to get it finished.

Please save it with the title: "2012 Term 1 Science Your Name"

When it is finished, please attach it to an email, and send it to me. Then you can go to Study Ladder and complete the science activities I've set up for you. When you have completed the set tasks for science on Study Ladder, you can then play Chronopticon.

Have a fun day!

How to Upload Files to ePals

1. Log in to www.epals.com using your user name and password.

2. Go to "My Files"

3. "Upload File"

4. "Browse" for your file

5. Click "Upload"

6. Click "Close" (or "Upload" if you want to upload another file)

7. You can see your file here

Next time you need to open your file, go to "My Files", and click on the file you would like to open. It will download then you can open it. If you make changes to your file, you'll need to upload it again because the changes that you've made are to the file that you have downloaded, not the file in ePals My Files.

Uploading your files to ePals is another way to back up your files that you are working on for your project. I recommend that you upload your files each time you work on your project.
